Last season at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, we were fortunate enough to host the Breeders Crown, harness racing’s year-end championships featuring practically every top horse in the country. After it ended, there was a general feeling that such a historic night of racing at Pocono might be a long time coming.

Betterthancheddar Triumphant In Thrilling Cane Pace At Pocono


Betterthancheddar pounced from the pocket late to pull off a mild upset in the Cane Pace on Saturday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The Cane, the first leg of harness racing’s Triple Crown for 3-year-old pacers, carried a purse of $342,875.
The Cane Pace was one of three stakes races moved from Tioga Downs to Pocono for the evening. Tioga was forced to cancel its racing on Saturday night due to conditions caused by the flood that rocked much of the Northeast US.
